| Media Coverage With experienced bricklayers in short supply - and charging increasingly high rates as a consequence - it makes sense to ensure that they spend most of their time laying bricks. Unproductive time is money lost and any quality product that can slash costs makes commercial sense. So a Birmingham company has developed a simple, effective measure that can help brickies increase productivity on site. The firm, Steppa, is producing a framing system that gives bricklayers a guide to building openings for doors and windows. It's X-Frame system weighs in at just 3kg and uses it's scissor like assembly to provide a solid, accurate guide for work around door and window openings. |

| According to inventor and director Paul Crutchley, the system can help save on material costs as well as labour. He said "Because it is so simple to erect, brickies can get straight on with laying bricks without fiddling around trying to put up wooden frames." The standard frame has a fixed height of 1.5m with a variable width, fully adjustable to a 1.4m. A 2.1m version for door frames is also available while using multiple frames can accommodate larger widths. The base of the frame locks onto lower brick courses when window openings are formed while the collapsible system can be re-used on other sites. |

| Mr Crutchley added that house builders and construction colleges throughout the U.K are getting the benefits that these products offer. The X-Frame has recently been used in the National Bricklaying Finals at Skillbuild in Manchester and due to be used in the World Skills International finals in Switzerland, June 2003.
